What is Yuno Energy?

Yuno Energy is a CRU-approved home energy provider that launched in August 2023.

Our game-changing digital electricity service is designed to help you save energy and money through flexible payments, personalised insights and market-low rates.

  • We don’t do online portals. Instead, you get a clear view of your hourly, daily, weekly and monthly usage and spending in the Yuno Energy app.

  • We don’t do empty promises. Instead, you get rewarded for reducing your usage with savings you can see on your next payment.

  • We don't do hard-to-reach.  Instead, you get the help you need from our dedicated local Support Team 7 days a week.

How does Yuno Energy work?

Yuno Energy lets you pay your electricity bill at the start of each month based on a personalised usage Prediction –  no unwelcome surprises. We deduct the difference from your next bill whenever you use less than expected. Plus, with the Yuno Energy app, you can manage and track your usage, costs and payments from a smartphone.

How is Yuno Energy different?

Home energy can be complicated and unpredictable. Yuno Energy makes it simple and predictable.

  • Always know. Now you can always see your next electricity payment in advance. Because we give you a personalised usage Prediction (kWh) at the start of the month that eliminates the guesswork.

  • Flexible payments. You pay in advance (by bank card) monthly based on the Prediction on a date that suits your budget. Then you have the rest of the Billing Period to spend less and save.

  • All-in-one app. The Yuno Energy app lets you track actual usage against the Prediction with the live Forecast. You get daily reports on the difference between your Forecast and our Prediction - down to the last unit and cent.

  • Real rewards. You can adjust day-to-day activities based on your usage insights to avoid spending more than your Advance Payment. Or, even better, to use less than predicted and reduce next month's payment

How does Advance Payment work?

Advance Payment makes it easy to monitor and predict every bill.

Each month, you pay for your electricity before you use it based on a usage Prediction (kWh).

We calculate the Prediction from your previous consumption and adjust it for seasonality. So it's always personalised and precise.

You then pay (on your chosen date) with a bank card saved to the Yuno Energy app. Billing Periods start on your payment date and usually last 30 days.

  • Helpful: Our app provides increasingly accurate updates on your next Prediction (kWh & €) until 24 hours before your payment is due. This allows you to budget without the prospect of shocking electricity bills.

Advance Payment Example

  • You make a €100 Advance Payment based on our Prediction

  • You track actual usage against it with the Forecast to avoid overspending

  • You maintain or adjust your activities based on daily Forecast updates

  • The cost of your total actual electricity this month also amounts to €100

  • Next month's Advance Payment is based entirely on our next Prediction

What's the difference between the Prediction and Forecast?

You can find the Prediction and Forecast on the home screen of your Yuno Energy app.

Both display a version of your total electricity usage for the current Billing Period in kWh and €. But there are important differences to note.

Prediction vs Forecast

  • The Prediction shows the amount of electricity we predicted you would use at the start of the month based on your previous usage. It’s the basis of your Advance Payment and does not change.

  • The Forecast shows the amount of electricity we expect you to use this month based on your actual usage to date. It shows the cost of your forecasted usage and updates daily to account for all the available data.

  • Did you know? Your Smart Meter automatically submits readings to ESB Networks every 30 minutes. We constantly collect this data to learn about your usage habits and calculate the most accurate possible Prediction and Forecast.

Next: Find out why tracking your Forecast against our Prediction can save you energy and money.

Why do I track the Forecast against the Prediction?

Think of the Prediction (kWh) as your household energy goal for the month.

You can choose to either:

  • Match it and avoid spending more than your latest Advance Payment

  • Beat it and deduct the difference from next month's payment

The Forecast - which updates every 24 hours and responds to your latest usage - helps you reach your goal. You just need to track it against our Prediction in your Yuno Energy app.

How to reach your goal

The Forecast provides a daily snapshot of your expected usage for the month and how it compares to our Prediction.

So you always know if you’re on track to use more, less or the same amount of electricity as predicted.

You can then maintain, adjust or reduce your usage and activities based on your goal. Then check your Forecast the next day for the results.

Your Yuno Energy app even lets you alternate views to see your:

  • Forecasted spend vs. Advance Payment (€)

  • Forecasted usage vs. our Prediction (kWh)

What happens next month?

Let’s say, at the start of the current Billing Period, we predicted you would use 200 kWh.

Here are three possible scenarios:

  1. Your actual usage is 195 kWh. We deduct the extra credit from the cost of your next Prediction.

  2. Your actual usage is 200 kWh. We base your next payment entirely on your next Prediction.

  3. Your actual usage is 205 kWh. We add the remaining balance to the cost of your next Prediction.

How does Yuno Energy billing work?

When joining Yuno Energy, you pick a monthly Advance Payment date and provide your debit/credit card details.

We also ask you to estimate your home’s annual electricity consumption based on the average Irish household. This estimate informs an initial payment to cover your first month’s electricity usage.

We’ll then start collecting data from your Smart Meter and learning about your usage habits. Your first bill will reflect any difference between your actual consumption and this payment.

Handy: You can see all your billing and payment information in the Payments tab of the Yuno Energy app.

What happens next

You will receive your bill, via the Yuno Energy app, 24 hours before your chosen payment date. It will then be automatically charged to your bank card.

You pay in advance based on a personalised usage Prediction and your unit rate. We predict how many units of electricity (kWh) you will consume each month using historical data from your meter.

If your actual usage was less than the initial payment, we’ll deduct the extra credit from the cost of the Prediction. Likewise, if it was higher, the remaining balance will be added.

Preview: Your app gives you increasingly accurate daily updates on your Next Prediction and Next Payment

Billing Periods start on your payment date and usually last 30 days.

Billing Period

Billing periods start on your payment date and usually last 30 days. You can track yourself against our Prediction with the live Forecast on the main screen of your app. Like the Prediction, it displays your expected total electricity usage for the month in kWh and €.

But the Forecast updates every 24 hours based on your actual consumption and becomes increasingly accurate until the end of the Billing Period.

Any cost difference between the Forecast and Prediction will be added to or deducted from your next Advance Payment.

Can I participate in the Microgeneration Support Scheme with Yuno Energy?

Yes. You will be paid for any surplus renewable electricity you export to the national grid under the Clean Export Guarantee.

You must be a Yuno Energy customer with a registered microgeneration device. You’ll also need to complete an NC6 form with ESB Networks to allow them to record the units you export to the grid.

Customers with a smart meter will receive payment for metered exports. Those still waiting for their smart meter upgrade will be compensated for deemed (estimated) exports. Yuno Energy currently offers a rate of 14c* (15.89 inc. VAT) per kWh exported.

You will receive your first payment in November 2023 by way of an adjustment to your bill amount. This payment will account for your exports between the day you joined Yuno Energy and October 31st, 2023. Thereafter, you will be paid every six months.

Important: The Commission for Regulation of Utilities has decided to cease deemed export payments for customers who decline a smart meter installation.
